W4- An alien had landed in my backyard

It was past midnight when a strange noise jolted me awake. At first, I thought it was just the wind, but then I heard a faint metallic hum and a soft thud. My heart pounded as I tiptoed to the window. Under the moonlight, something glowed faintly in my backyard. Grabbing a flashlight, I crept outside, breath shaky.

Lying in the grass was a creature unlike anything I'd ever seen. It was my height, covered in silver-purple skin that rippled under the light. Large black eyes blinked rapidly, and glowing orbs floated around its head. When it noticed me, it shrank back, frightened.

It spoke melodically with echoing tones. I pointed to my ears, shaking my head. It tilted its head, then tapped its fingers on the ground rhythmically. Curious, I drew a simple picture of myself in the dirt. The alien’s eyes widened, and it drew a glowing figure beside me, next to a rounded object.

"Your spaceship?" I guessed. The alien made rapid, excited sounds, pointing toward the trees. I motioned for it to follow me.

Deep in the forest, a small metallic pod lay half-buried. It was cracked on one side, wires blinking dimly. The alien touched the surface, its fingers glowing, but the ship didn’t respond. Suddenly, a helicopter roared overhead, searchlights sweeping the area. I grabbed the alien’s arm, pulling it behind a tree. It trembled and clutched my sleeve. I think if the government found it, they might take it away. I had to keep it hidden.

I sneaked it into my shed, set up blankets and found crackers, fruit, and water. The alien hesitated, then took a small bite and smiled, its eyes glowing with gratitude.

The next morning, I sketched a picture of tools. The alien pointed to a wrench and mimicked turning something. We understood each other! Over the next few days, I sneaked tools and wires from my dad’s garage. The alien, whom I named Eris, showed me its incredible ability to manipulate energy—sparks danced between its fingers, reviving broken circuits.

One night, while searching for a missing component, we discovered a cave filled with pulsing, glowing crystals. When Eris touched one, energy surged through the cave. It gestured for me to pick up a small crystal. The moment like I did, a warmth spread through my body. Images flashed in my mind, distant galaxies, vibrant planets, and beings like Eris. I gasped. Eris placed a hand on my shoulder, sharing a vision of unity. We took some crystals back, knowing they were the missing power source.

After days of work, the ship was nearly complete. Eris took out a larger glowing crystal, gesturing for me to hold it. The air shimmered, and suddenly, I wasn’t in my backyard anymore.

We stood on another planet. The sky was purple and blue, with two suns in the distance. Towering plants with translucent leaves glowed softly. Waterfalls cascaded from floating islands, and the air smelled like rain and unfamiliar flowers. A shimmering city floated above the ground, connected by pathways of light.

Time felt slower here peacefully. We played among floating islands and swam in crystal-clear lakes teeming with bioluminescent creatures. As the alien suns set, casting pink and gold hues, Eris pointed to the sky. It was time to go. With a wave of its hand, shimmering air surrounded me and, in a blink, I was back in my backyard.

At last, the spaceship was ready. Eris touched the control panel, and the ship hummed to life. It turned to me, placed a hand over its heart, and pointed skyward.

“You’ll come back?” I whispered.

Eris nodded, placing a glowing crystal in my hand. I smiled as the ship lifted off, disappearing into the stars.

A year passed, yet I felt connected to Eris through the crystal. Then, on the anniversary of that night, a familiar hum filled the air. I ran outside with heart pounding. There under the moonlight, Eris stood with another two glowing figures. They together pointed to the stars and handed me a larger, brighter crystal. As they turned to leave, I realized they weren’t just showing me the universe—they were inviting me to be a part of it.
